Monks of Aqueous Indulgence
The Monks of Aqueous Indulgence are a loose group of people looking to seek deeper insights by using tantric methods of meditation. There are no dogmas, no priests, no membership. Nothing but wet bliss.

Hey !  What a lovely day it is !

Rain is falling and blessing the earth, we get soaking wet and life is beautiful. We've finally cracked it, during the morning shower before dawn. The goose is out. Life is one great game, a play. The point is to combine the calmness and compassion of the Buddha with the joy of living of Zorba the Greek into a form of spiritual hedonism!

Saint Aquifer Monk of Compassion

Our inspiration comes from a 14th century monk, Saint Aquifer, who dedicated his life caring for those who were outcast because of leprosy or other illness. He poured water all over them to bathe them, which was a real blessing. Today you can still see pouring water a symbol of compassion and benediction. To remind us of his work, we use water in our daily contemplation and wear the blue robes.

Our Blue Robes

You can recognise us worldwide by the royal blue robes we often wear. These are usually made of quick drying material because members of the public like to pour water over us as a blessing. We also wear our blue robes during our aquatic meditations and water games. They are loose fitting and very comfy, both wet or dry. This feels good and brings great joy.

Share Your Joy

Life can be one big party, with wild moments and quiet contemplation, like watching the sunrise by the sea after a wild foam party night. Forget philosophies and ideologies that cause suffering. Clear your mind. Start living here and now.

There is nothing to achieve other than to bring wet happiness into your world and pour it all over you. If everything we do follows this idea for a while, then amazing things will happen. Let's simply find new ways to communicate and share, to enjoy the exchange with like-minded people.

Aqueous

Aqueous refers to a solution in water. A more exact definition is a solution in which the solute (the substance dissolved) initially is a liquid or a solid and the solvent is water.

Water Retreats

Several times a year we organise a water retreat. We get together with other aqueous monks and lay people to have a wet and peaceful time. Our daily routine looks a bit like this:
monk prepares for pouring water Early Morning Bath
This prepares us for the new day. Put on your meditation robe and get into a foamy bath. Or swim in a pool, lake or the sea. Release all pent up tensions. Clear your mind for the new day. Then enjoy a good breakfast.

Rain Meditation
This is very relaxing and peaceful. Sitting silently, doing nothing, rain falls and blesses the earth. We do it in the shower or in the garden under the water sprinklers. If we're really blessed it rains outside and we sit in the garden or the forest.

The whole point is to get wet slowly, as an awareness training. Listen to the drops falling on your robe. Watch them roll off. Notice how some water seeps inside, touching you gently on the face or shoulders.

After a while put down your hood. Allow the water to get into your hair, run down your shoulders, your back and front, down to your legs. Watch how it makes its way in little streams between your skin and your clothes which get heavier as they soak up the water. You may only get partially wet, but that is where the awareness comes in.

blessing by pouring water Pouring Water
To pour water over someone is an ancient form of blessing. We practice pouring water like Saint Aquifer did to bless and cleanse others. If you're still dry from the previous meditation, this will now change. Prepare to get really wet.

We gently pour water over each other, letting it touch and bless every part of our body. Be mindful how the water flows down your clothes and touches your skin. Afterwards we play with buckets and hose pipes until we're all soaking wet.

Afternoon Swim
Swimming is an important part in our day. It brings us into the here and now. We put on our blue track suits or rain suits which are easier to swim in than the blue robe. Some of our better swimmers also wear their blue robe in the water. It is good exercise.

Evening Bath Meditation
Similar to morning meditation. Put on your meditation robe and relax in a foamy bath. Again release your tensions. Clear you mind and let go. Feel how your soft meditation robe gently touches every part of your body. You can either do the Vipassana meditation alone or do the Tantra meditation with a fellow monk.

Tantra with Friends
Around bed time we get together with fellow monks to end the day harmoniously with Tantra meditation. This spreads wellbeing and kindness towards other people. Ask Google for details.
Meal Times
On hot days we eat outside and occasionally pour a little water over each other as a blessing. Afterwards, we get the hose pipe out to wash the dishes and each other. Great fun.

Aqueous Meditation

If you really want to treat yourself to something very special, try this:

Fill up the bath tub with warm water and plenty of shampoo or bubble bath. Put on your meditation robe, usually unlined nylon rainwear or poncho, nothing else. You can wear two layers of rainwear if you like.

Get into the bath and make sure you duck under so that it all gets completely wet. Now sit up or stand up in the bath and pour in a good amount of shampoo or bubble bath into the collar of your rainwear. Rub it around well all over until it gets all foamy inside. If you wear rain pants, foam them up as well.

Then rub foam all over the outside of your clothes. If possible, get a friend to join in and help you with this. Then lay back in to water and enjoy.

The result is an extremely pleasant feeling of soft foam and wet nylon all over your body. It can be very relaxing after a while.

"Pure Zen"

Reader Comments

When I joined this group for meditation it was an eye opener. They are happy and free, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Sensual water experiences are used to bring you into the here and now.

The Aqueous Meditation was all new to me. I've never worn clothes in the water before. Taking a foamy bath in the blue robe was an extremely pleasant experience. It is amazing what impact their methods have, yet they only use simple clothes and water. Pure Zen.

"Sitting silently,
 doing nothing,
 rain comes and
 runs down your clothes."
A few years ago I spend some time with the Aqueous Monks in search for myself and a more centred being. Their methods appealed to me. Water is an important element for me, it is soft yet strong.

I love the outdoors, swimming and hiking. The rain meditations we're pure bliss for me. Sitting silently, doing nothing, rain comes and runs down your clothes.

Often I put the hood of my robe down so the water could run into my collar and down my back and front. This created an amazing sensation, like a light massage.

The bath meditation is also amazing. You can feel the soft touch of your meditation robe in the foamy water. The sensation is so wonderful. Try it at home to see what I mean.
